Dear Senators Collins and Snowe,
It is past time for you to begin voting in favor of a date certain for the
safe, secure, and rapid withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq.
While you have criticized the Bush Administration's failed Iraq policy in
Maine, you have continually voted to support it in Washington.
We understand the enormous pressure that a president from your own political
party can bring to bear. But, we take pride in the fact that Maine has
traditionally sent politically independent Senators to Washington who put
the views and interests of the people back home ahead of partisan demands in
the nation's capital.
Most Mainers support setting a date for U.S. combat forces to leave Iraq.
We call on you to rise above your loyalty to a president who stubbornly
refuses to change a failed course and represent the views of Maine people on
this critical manner. The lives of our brave men and women in Iraq hang in
the balance.
Sincerely,
